The federal government has labeled Chinese a “critical” language and provides funds to encourage more students to learn it.  The FBI, CIA, and international corporations compete to find and hire those fluent in Chinese and familiar with Chinese culture.  What do you think?

Is Chinese an important language to know?

Is its culture relevant in today’s world?

Schools should be teaching Chinese and all manner of foreign languages. The 21st century demands it!

I think that the schools should introduce chinese and other foreign languages. Why? Because when you go to elementry school, you learn counting, letters, basic writing formats, and what else…SPANISH! You learn the basics of spanish: counting, thank you, please, etc. Now two of the most common languages in the U.S.A are English(of course), and Spanish. I think that most people are influenced to learn spanish because they want to be able to learn another language. But they also want it to be quick and easy. When people realize how easy and common the language is, they choose to learn that language. But wouldnt it be cool to speak a language that not many people speak? A language thats hard to learn? That is an acommpishment! And if you learn to read and write it, thats great on top of a college application and a job application. You could be a translator. Thats big money and its easy and fun! Thats why I think more foreign languages should be introduced to schools. To influence people to try something new. It pays off in the long run.

They should teach Chinese as a language in schools, because it is a foreign language, and it doesn’t make sense to me how they teach Spanish, Italian, Latin, and all those other languages, but not Chinese. Chinese can be an important language at times, and it is fun to learn. The characters are very different than the other languages, they are made of pictures, like the word fire, is written somehow like the shape of a fire. This is why I think Chinese should be a language taught in school.

I think they should have chinese classes too. Because if someone wanted to learn chinese. But nobody would teach it, he would be TOTALLY LOST in china and it’s amazing culture. He might do something offensive on accident!
